FAQS

Questions about therapy?

Check out answers to commonly asked questions below. If you don’t see yours listed, contact me—I’m happy to help.

  • I am located in the Bay Area and provide online therapy for residents throughout California.

  • All therapy sessions take place online. Whether you’re located in the Bay Area or another part of California, you can skip the commute and waiting room and still receive the same quality of care. Our sessions will take place utilizing a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, so you can access the support you need from the comfort of your own space.

  • Reach out to schedule a 20-minute consultation call. You can ask me anything you want, and I’ll ask some questions to learn a bit about why you're thinking about therapy. If we feel like it's a good match, we can schedule our first session. The best way to find out if I'm the right therapist for you is to come to a session. Most people can gauge if we’re a good fit within the first two times we meet (and if we’re not, I’ll happily provide referrals to other talented therapists in my network). To get more of a sense of how I work, take a look at my about page and blog.

  • The fee is $195 per 50-minute session.

I do offer a limited amount of sliding scale spots for individuals who need a reduced fee. I will work with you to find a way therapy can be financially sustainable. If you do not think you can afford my full rate, please still reach out. If we are not able to work together, I would be happy to provide referrals to other therapists who are able to accommodate your financial needs.

  • Once you decide to see a therapist, it's normal to feel a bit unsure about how it all works. Many people feel a little nervous before their first session. The first time we meet, we’ll get to know each other a bit and talk about what’s been going on in your life. Then, we’ll touch on what you’d like to get out of therapy and establish a plan together to figure out how you begin living a life more aligned with what you want and need.

As we progress, sessions will be tailored to focus on your unique goals. I'll listen attentively, ask thoughtful questions, and provide insights to help you gain clarity and develop coping strategies. I will regularly check in with you to see how you’re feeling about therapy and our work together, and we can evolve our goals as needed.

Ultimately, you can anticipate a safe and confidential space where you are respected and supported on your journey toward personal growth.

  • I work with women of all ages. Whether you are a:

    • High school student grappling with the pressures of defining your path

    • College student or young professional navigating the complexities of adulthood

    • Woman entering your 20s or 30s seeking meaningful change

    • Mom (or soon-to-be) striving to manage everything on your plate

I'm here to support you on your journey toward personal growth and empowerment. My expertise is in anxiety & stress, confidence and self-worth, navigating past wounds and attachment, untangling unhealthy relationships, adult children of alcoholics, setting boundaries, big changes like going to college or having a baby, identity, and perinatal mental health.

  • I think of therapy as a team effort where we work together to understand what might be holding you back, learn new skills, and set goals to tackle challenges. Instead of just looking at problems, we focus on helping you grow and become the best version of yourself. The goal is to help you feel more confident, understand yourself, and figure out what you want from life.

I am here to support you. I will ask helpful questions to expand your perspective, encourage you to challenge unhelpful beliefs about yourself, empower you to take action, and celebrate your strengths and progress. We will look at how your past impacts your present in order to shift behaviors that no longer serve you. I'll also give you tools and coping strategies to use when things get tough, and we'll work on building habits of self-care together.

In our sessions, I use a mix of approaches drawing from the core principles of Client-Centered Humanistic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Strengths-based, and Attachment-based theories. I find these techniques are often helpful for my clients. Visit my about page to learn more about how I work.

  • Sessions are generally scheduled for 50 minutes each and occur weekly. If you prefer longer sessions or twice a week, feel free to reach out to me, and we can discuss options and corresponding pricing.

In the beginning of our work together, we will meet weekly. I emphasize the importance of regular sessions at the start to establish momentum, as progress may slow down otherwise. As you achieve your goals, it may make sense to reduce the frequency of our sessions. We will continue to check in to review your goals and progress.

  • The length of therapy varies for each individual—it depends on your unique goals, challenges, and progress. Some clients find significant relief and achieve their objectives in a few sessions, while others may choose to engage in longer-term therapy for ongoing support and personal growth. The important thing is that no matter what, our sessions don’t feel stagnant and you feel your time is well-spent. We'll regularly assess your needs, and the frequency and duration of our sessions will be a collaborative decision based on your progress and evolving therapeutic goals.

  • I am not in-network with any insurance providers. However, I can support you as an "out-of-network" provider. Many insurance companies reimburse for out-of-network services, especially with PPO plans. I can provide you with a SuperBill, a detailed receipt you can submit for possible reimbursement. You'll handle the fees during our session, and your insurance might cover a portion based on your plan.

If you're unsure about your out-of-network benefits, call your insurance provider. Ask about reimbursement for behavioral health, the coverage percentage, and if there's a deductible. It's essential to advocate for the right therapist fit. Mention that our sessions are via telehealth/online therapy.

Please note that I can't guarantee reimbursement, so it's vital to check with your insurance provider first. They can guide you on coverage and options before we begin our sessions. Kindly be aware that if you choose to submit insurance claims, it will necessitate providing you with a mental health diagnosis. Your well-being matters, and I'm here to assist as best I can every step of the way.

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.

  • Please provide 48 hours notice if you must cancel an appointment. A charge of the full session fee is applied when appointments are missed or canceled with less than 48 hours notice.

  • Generally whatever you say in therapy stays in therapy, guided by both legal and ethical standards. Your records and what we discuss during sessions are treated with the utmost privacy. However, the exceptions are:

    • If you provide written consent to release your information

    • If your records are subpoenaed for legal reasons

    • If there is suspected child abuse, dependent or elder abuse

    • If there is a serious threat to harm another person

    • If there is intention to extremely harm oneself

If we run into each other by chance outside the therapy office, I won't say hello first to respect your privacy. But if you say hi first, I'll be happy to chat briefly. I won't go into long discussions in public to protect your privacy.

  • Yes. I am a qualified supervisor for Associate Marriage and Family Therapists seeking licensure in the state of California. I would love to help you navigate this exciting time.

Please contact me for more information and to see if we’d be a good fit.
